Composer, musician and YouTuber Alex Moukala Yesterday he dropped a funky and tastic remix of the Nintendo Wii theme song on Twitter and then invited other artists to do the same. The result is an impromptu jam session filled with gifted people showing their love for one of the most outrageous songs in video games.
Moukala, whose music has been featured in movie trailers such as Avengers Endgame, and who can be seen frequently on his YouTube channel breaking down your favorite video game soundtracks, started things adding a new and original bassline to the music from the Wii console’s home menu.
The Italian composer then asked others to join, share necessary sound files to contribute their own music. “I think this would sound even better with more instruments, so I invite any musician to join me and post their take with a #MiiChannelJam Hashtag! “
It didn’t take long for many other musicians, including some responsible for their own video game music, to respond:
Sonic mania composer Tee Lopes also joined, as did Light blue Y Sackboy: a great adventure songwriter Lena Raine, who added their own synthetic twists:
The jam session continued. Violinist and composer Jeff Ball, who worked on Steven Universe and also made music for various games, including Timespinner, added its own disk-y version:
Each track is currently separate, but Moukala says he might consider compiling them into one remix later in the week. For now, it’s really cool to see so many talented artists riffs on a game classic. The Internet! Sometimes it doesn’t suck and it’s actually amazing. Moukala wrote, “This here is video game music equivalent to Sea Shanty and I love it!”
