Low temperatures broke several records

The arctic air blast that engulfed parts of the east coast broke records of low temperature from Maine to Virginia Western and stunned sea turtles in Florida, although there will be a warm-up on Monday.

Burlington, Vt. and Portland, Maine, broke records, with Burlington falling to minus-20, beating a record of 1923 by one degree, and Portland registering minus-11, also a grade below a record of 1941.

The National Weather Service said Worcester, Mass., which dropped to minus-9, and Providence, RI, which fell to minus-3, also set record lows, like Hartford, Conn., where the temperature dropped to minus-9, breaking a record of 1912.

Boston tied a low temperature record set more than a century ago in 1896 of minus-2.

Low temperatures were also established in parts of West Virginia.

New York Airport

Flood provokes evacuation, delays

A terminal at Kennedy International Airport was evacuated on Sunday afternoon after it broke a water pipe, causing flight delays and exacerbating other lingering effects of Thursday's winter storm. Images from a CNN report showed standing water in Terminal 4 in bustling downtown New York.

Passengers should expect delays in flights and check with their airlines before going to the airport, the airport tweet.

Terminal 4 is an important gateway for international arrivals to JFK and serves as an international hub for Delta Air Lines, according to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

Sunday's floods are the last of many problems at the airport since Thursday's storm. Dozens of flights have been rescheduled since Thursday, leaving hundreds of travelers stranded.
