A heroic police officer praised for clinging to a truck hanging precariously on a highway bridge says he was "doing his job".
PC Martin Willis faced a nervous wait of 15 minutes for emergency services to arrive and rescue the motorist trapped in the A1 (M) in West Yorkshire early on Friday morning.
The transit officer was the first to arrive at the scene and grabbed the vehicle to "stop it rocking with the wind" after skidding off the road in icy conditions.
PC Willis tweeted that he could not "begin to describe my relief" when the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Services (WYFRS) arrived to free the driver.
"It was scary as I was worried that another collision could happen and it hit us on the shoulder while the traffic went by quickly, but I'm just doing my job," he wrote. "I was balancing, so I had to keep it quiet"
