Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 The best new sports car I have rated on a per-dollar basis. Visually, it is an absolute power center of sensory stimulation that positions the world better with each degree of needle climb. Sadly, this magnificent animal is getting an ax this fall. And I’m here to tell you: Sometimes it’s okay to let tears flow.
My first major assignment as a Jalopnik writer was to drive to a racetrack, meet with Ford PR people and engineers, and drive in circles in the 2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R. Leaving just the engineering world and with little journalistic experience, I had no clue what I was doing, but by the end of that incident one thing became clear: whatever I was doing right. This is because the GT350R made all the right sounds. It navigates corners in such a way that its girth should not be a vehicle. Its Shifter – I will learn four years later when I did the pilot Models of the Angeles Angeles Crest Highway in Los Angeles around 2020 (possibly 2019)– Like perfect mechanical perfection. I could go on and on, but you’ve heard it all. The GT350 is a masterpiece.
But soon it will die.
Here’s what Ford had to say about the fall departure of the beautiful sports coupe:
“With the Shelby GT500 of 760 horsepower now in full progress, we will end production of the Shelby GT350 and GT350R. This paves the way for new additions to excite our passionate Mustang fans for the 2021 model year – including the limited edition Mach 1. “”

- The upcoming limited-edition 2021 Mustang Mach 1 GT350 comes standard with a Tremec 3160 6-speed manual transmission
It’s not like a bad breakup Ford Focus RS, Which got three model years despite having only a small hot hatch. No, the GT350 was for about six whole model years, and you know what that is? It is very solid. It was a good run, and I think we can be proud of what Ford has done with its Mustang to really bring it to the next level.

On the positive side, as Ford points out, the GT500 will remain, but if I’m honest – one after the other – I can say without doubt that the GT350 is a better machine from a driving pleasure standpoint.
Still, if you want a used GT350, you’ve got six model-years to choose from. So go ahead and end your crying, but everything is going to be alright.
