The Miami Dolphins’ 2020 playoff prospects are looking more favorable this Sunday afternoon after a stunning run of game decisions during the NFL’s opening week slate of Week 16 Sunday. Miami scored a miraculous win against the Las Vegas Raiders by a score of 26-25 on Saturday night, making it perhaps the most rewarding individual week of the season – pushing the team’s record to 10-5 with one game remaining.
But the Dolphins’ playoff odds still depended on winning at Buffalo during their Week 17 clash; Or at least until they came close to the 1PM game. Because the Cleveland Browns, who entered Week 16 with a 10–4 record and 1–13 facing the New York Jets, lost 23–16. And the Indianapolis Colts also fell to the Pittsburgh Steelers 28-24 in the final, entering the weekend at 10-4 – blowing a 17-point second-half lead in the process.
Leaves the Dolphins, as things currently stand, as the AFC’s No. 5 seed – no longer on the edge of the playoff field entering the final week of the season.
The Dolphins will now have four avenues to reach the postseason in Week 17:
Defeat to take Buffalo Bills 11-5
A Cleveland Brown harms the Pittsburgh Steelers
A Baltimore Ravens harms Cincinnati Bengals
Jacksonville Jaguars loss to Indianapolis Colts
Miami knowing that they can win and definitely cause it. But the Browns will face a Pittsburgh Steelers team that competes with the Buffalo Bills for the AFC’s No. 2 seed – there will be plenty for the Bills and Steelers to play in both Buffalo and Cleveland next weekend. So consider it game. And when Miami lost without CB Byron Jones to the Bills in Week 2, the Browns lost to the Steelers 38-7 earlier this season. Suddenly there is a lot of feeling on the side of the dolphin.
Oh yeah And as if the juxtaposition of these events was not enough for the Dolphins, the Houston Texans lost to the Cincinnati Bengals this afternoon – pushing Miami’s first scheduled 2021 NFL Draft into the top-5 overall selection courtesy of the Larry Tunisil trade. The Texas Titans will face Week 17, who are fighting for the playoff seedings and the AFC South Division title. The Texas loss next weekend will move the Dolphins to the top-5 next April.
This is a good bow for the Dolphins in Week 16 to put them at the turn of events.
