The Insider Pick:
Microsoft has had a rough trip in the industry game, but despite some setbacks, the Seattle-based company has managed to forge a large part of the console market. The software developer surprised everyone when he announced his first Xbox in 2001. His successor, the Xbox 360 boasted a more refined aerodynamic design and was a very popular and successful machine during his 11 – years of execution before being officially suspended in 2016.
The recent Xbox One S and the new Xbox One X are now among the best gaming consoles you can buy. The competition between Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo is still fierce, but the Xbox One is unarguably an impressive system with great appeal.
With its compatibility with previous versions, it allows owners to play Xbox 360 titles of the previous generation and original Xbox games too, Microsoft's console has a distinct advantage over the PlayStation, which lacks native compatibility with earlier versions in favor of a PS Now subscription service . The Xbox also has tons of great games available for all types of players.
Whether you already have an Xbox or plan to buy one (or if you're just doing some gift shopping for that player in your life), I've selected five must-have titles with something for everyone, with some familiar faces along with exciting new ones IP addresses.
Continue reading in the slides below to discover why we chose "Halo: The Master Chief Collection". Forza Horizon 3, "Gears of War 4", "Ori and the Blind Forest" and "Sunset Overdrive" as our favorite Xbox games.
The best first person shooting game
Why you'll love it: with five complete games in one package, "Halo: The Master Chief Collection" It offers a lot of content and allows you to relive the adventures of Master Chief in all its glory with weapons and grenades.
When someone says "Xbox", experienced players immediately think: "Halo!" Bungie "The clbadic first-person shooter is what put the Xbox on the map, proving that Microsoft's console could hang with veterans of the Nintendo and Sony industry." Halo: Combat Evolved "sold millions of copies throughout the The world, earned the acclaim of universal criticism and brought hordes of players to the Xbox. There are many chances that if you have one of these consoles in 2001 or 2002, play some Halo.
The writing, the characters and the direction Halo art was fantastic, especially when compared to other first-person shooters of the era, but where Halo really shines is the excellent multiplayer mode. "Halo: Combat Evolved" was, in short, a sand shooter ] designed from scratch for the console game.
Innovations such as utility weapons, a dedicated grenade button and the limitation of the player to carry two weapons at a time (all features of design built around a controller) made Halo truly unique. Casual and competitive players alike went to the franchise for millions.
"Halo 2" was also among the first great games to popularize the new Xbox Live service, revolutionizing the console's multiplayer experience. "Halo 3" kept the good times on the Xbox 360, and after two follow-up titles – "Halo 3: ODST" and "Halo Reach" – Bungie decided to hang his Spartan helmet and move on
] The series was delivered to the newly formed 343 Industries that made its debut with " Halo 4 ." Now, you can relive the glory days of the one man war of the Master Chief against the Covenant with " The Master Chief Collection ", which brings together five complete Halo games for the Xbox One.
This package includes the complete single player campaigns of "Halo: Combat Evolved", "Halo 2". "Halo 3" and "Halo 4", all major titles that were presented to Master Chief before "Halo 5", and 343 Industries also recently added "Halo 3: ODST" to the mix as free downloadable content. The first two games also come with their beautifully remastered "Anniversary" editions that feature full graphic reviews for newer consoles (although you can play with old-school graphics if you prefer, and can switch between the two versions whenever you want).
Also included is a multiplayer pack for competitive pairing, but unfortunately this feature of the game was met with a notoriously difficult release and still suffers from problems . Due to the fact that Microsoft had several studios working on this part of the game, the network code still has errors and probably will never be repaired completely.
It's still a wonder when it works correctly, though, and the five full single-player campaigns give you more than enough content with a lot of repetition value to keep you busy for quite some time.
"Halo: The Master Chief Collection" is a treasure that houses some of the best games ever created, and is easily the number one title for any Xbox One owner's library.
Pros: Five complete single-player campaigns provide a lot of value and content to keep you occupied for a long time, an addictive game that allows you to relive the glorious days of Halo, and beautifully remastered versions of "Halo: Combat Evolved" and "Halo 2" Cons: Defective and sparsely-matched matching game

The best racing game
Why you'll love it: Set in a beautiful and expansive open world based on places on the vine a real, "Forza Horizon 3" offers a fantastic combination of high speed racing and casual exploration along with hundre ds of cars to play with.
Of the "three big" exclusive Xbox franchises (the other two are Halo and Gears of War), Forza is easily the most ignored. The series made its debut on the original Xbox in 2005, and since then, it attracted more than 14 million players in its 12-year career.
Several developers have worked in Forza, and the main "Forza Motorsport" games are developed mainly by Turn 10 Studios and the "Forza Horizon" sub-series by Playground Games. While the titles of "Motorsport" are more focused on traditional races, "Horizon" introduced an open world angle that allows the player to navigate and explore off the track.
" Fora Horizon 3 " is the ninth total quota and the third in the Horizon series. It is also one of the most critically acclaimed racing games and one of the best: not to mention the most beautiful experiences of the Xbox One. Each Forza title presents its own unique configuration based on real scenarios , and "Horizon 3" places the player in an open world inspired by the Australian Outback.
"Freedom" is really the word of the day with "Forza Horizon 3." The game world is twice as big as "Horizon 2", and while is visually stunning and is a pleasure to explore it, a racing game is, of course, all about cars.
Here you have more than 350 available to buy in the game, and you can customize all about them . Buy aftermarket parts, adjust the components to suit your driving style and modify the appearance to the vanity plates. You can even customize your controller and create a new radio station using your own music library.
This time, the player is also in charge of the Horizon Festival, instead of being a simple participant as in the previous Horizon games. The whole high-speed game is there, from standard races to time trials and more, but now you can hire and fire drivers, put together racing teams with your friends, organize events and challenge other players as you unlock new festival locations on the bush Australian. You can explore the whole world of mbad games from the beginning, and it's up to you how you approach it.
"Forza Horizon 3" is a triumph and in a sea of racing games and seemingly endless sequels, manages to master the basics while maintaining its own design ethos focused on the freedom that makes it so special. It's a must have for fans of the series (or racing fans in general, for that matter), but it's also easy to recommend to any Xbox One owner who's in the mood for a long and beautiful thrill ride
Pros: A great combination of high-speed racing and casual cruising, hundreds of customizable cars that are a pleasure to drive, a great open world to explore, multiplatform game between Xbox One and Windows. 10, and gorgeous graphics that show the power of the Microsoft console
Cons: It does not have a compelling story (if you need that kind of thing)

Gears of War
Why you'll love it: While not as innovative as its predecessors, "Gears of War 4" still manages to bring all the crazy action, violent and touching that we love the series in the next generation.
If Halo is the straight star Athlete of the Xbox family, then Gears of War is his crazy, violent, troublesome and delinquent cousin, and it's amazing. This series of third-person shots made its explosive debut on the Xbox 360 and became a nighttime sensation, quickly consolidating its status as the second major exclusive IP for Microsoft consoles.
But Gears of War is barely stuck in the shadow of the Master Chief. As big as Halo is, Gears stands out as an experience of its own. The original trilogy, developed for the Xbox 360, told the story of Marcus Fenix and his battle against the genocidal Locust Horde, an underground species sensitive to the extermination of the entire human race.
The games were tremendously popular and set the standard for third-person shooters, and many other works borrowed and expanded elements that Gears had perfected. And finally, in 2016, " Gears of War 4 " brought the series to the next generation on the Xbox One.
Established 25 years after the "Gears of War 3" events , the fourth central entrance puts you in JD's boots Fenix, the son of Marcus. The Locust scourge has been eliminated, but a new threat, a mutant branch similar to a hive of the Horde, known as the "Swarm", has risen to challenge an exhausted humanity that is still recovering from the devastation of the last war. The plot, certainly, is not exactly stepping on new ground here. But let's face it: you're probably not playing "Gears of War 4" for a narrative that will make your eyes tremble. The meat of this series is the gameplay, and everything we love about the franchise is here (and something else).
The original games were undoubtedly the best third-person shooters of their generation, and "Gears of War 4" is up to and including this pedigree. The combat is fast and fluid, the game is noticeably more refined than its predecessors, and the Swarm requires the use of new tactics to be helped along with some new weapons and abilities for you to play. Multiplayer modes are also just as addictive, even more so than before, especially the renewed "Horde" mode, which is a welcome improvement over "Gears of War 3". The images are every bit as good as we expected it to be a Gears of the next generation.
The new dynamic climate effects, implemented to show the devastated atmosphere of the planet Sera, are especially impressive. And although the story might not win a Pulitzer, "Gears of War 4" has it where it counts which shows that this series still offers as much fun as possible with a third person shooter.
Pros: A fun and refined combat system, Gears of War mechanics game loaded with adrenaline with new interesting additions, fantastic graphics and world design, and highly addictive multiplayer modes
Cons: the story is uninspired compared to previous titles, and the single player campaign is quite short

The best platform game
Ori and the blind forest
Why you'll love it: it's impossible not to fall in love with "Ori and the Blind Forest", which features an almost perfect action game mechanics along with gorgeous hand-drawn graphics , a beautiful soundtrack, and a moving story.
The Xbox One is a powerful console, but not all the best experiences found in the system require robust hardware to render new generation 3D graphics. Some games, like "Ori and the Blind Forest", offer absolutely stunning experiences using 2D handmade art .
This platform exploration game, belonging to the subgenre "Metroidvania" (so called because of its combination of Metroid and Castlevania titles), is among the best examples of this type and can be recommended to everyone.
Even if you're the type of player who demands cutting-edge graphics, do not rush to discard the two-dimensional "Ori" images, which is no less surprising than even the latest 3D games. The art direction in this game is still impressive and the vibrant world of the game catches you from the opening sequence. That same sequence also masterfully shapes the story, giving you an idea of Ori's endearing and emotional narrative that instantly leaves you hungry for more.
Metroidvania style games have become increasingly popular in the last decade, especially among independent developers. and "Ori" hits perfectly all the notes with its excellent platform, gratifying exploration and satisfying combat. The beautifully designed world will invite you to spend your time sniffing all its secrets, making this game a gift for players who like to slow down to "smell the roses".
All this combined with a beautiful orchestral soundtrack that you'll probably keep listening to after you've completed the game.
This does not mean that "Ori" itself is a slow game by any means, in fact, there are many moments that will keep you on the edge of your seat, specifically the escape sequences you will face at the end of each level . These are spooky and very funny, but this is also where the game encounters some problems with artificial difficulty. These escapades are sometimes based on too much trial and error for them to be erased, and this can be frustrating at times.
These unexpected peaks of difficulty may be a bit high for younger or casual players, but fortunately they never come. "Dark Souls' frustration levels do not greatly diminish the overall experience, which is glorious. Personalized control point is also very forgiving, preventing you from having to backtrack too much (just remember to take advantage of it by saving often).
"Ori and the Blind Forest" is one of the most polished platform games of recent years and one of the best Metroidvanias of all time, easily winning its place as a must-have game for Xbox One. Owners.
Pros: A vibrant and beautiful game world drawn by hand, a wonderful story , large platforms based on exploration, a fantastic orchestra soundtrack and an indulgent checkpoint system that reduces lost time
Cons: The combat is not as polished as the platforms, and the final-level escape sequences can be frustrating

The best open-world game
By What will I love: the end of the world never looked so beautiful as in "Sun" set Overdrive, "an open-world action and adventure game that is addictive to play and watch.
"Sunset Overdrive" is something of an enigma. It is one of those works that came out of nowhere, gained recognition of almost universal criticism along with solid sales, but did not become the great success it deserved to be. It is also extremely unique: in a market full of dirty, dusty and sinister post-apocalyptic titles, this hit the trend with a dazzling color scheme and crazy style by itself.
Developed by Insomniac Games (the studio behind the series " Ratchet and Clank ") "Sunset Overdrive" immerses you in a vibrant open world with an attractive and striking artistic direction that will catch you immediately
The monotonous, decadent aesthetic of the end of the Fallout world is gone: the people of Sunset City are celebrating as if it were 1999 -well, in fact, 2027- in a colorful metropolis that shows that they are not letting go the whole thing of the "dystopia riddled with mutants" keeps them on the sidelines.
All this is reflected in the wild color palette of Sunset City, as well as in the curious sense of humor of the game. The extravagant characters you'll find throughout the story are really entertaining, often breaking the fourth wall to make fun of the game itself, but be careful: They like to swear. A lot.
But where "Sunset Overdrive" really hooks you is with its fantastic parkour style movement system with which you will explore this crazy world as you confront the army of mutants that go mad inside it. 19659010] To get an idea of how it will move and fight in Sunset City, imagine "Jet Set Radio" combined with games like "Crackdown" or "Infamous" – and then add a dose of LSD . You will jump, ride, slide, and grind on walls, rails, vehicles, and buildings while using a variety of strange weapons to eliminate hordes of twisted mutants.
Even the tools you use are unique, to say the least (if you've ever wanted an explosive teddy bear, then this is your game). The high-speed game is immensely satisfying and highly addictive with a very rewarding progression system.
It's certainly pretty short for an open world title, especially when compared to other mbadive works like " Fallout 4 " but Sunset City still contains enough content to keep you occupied for about 15-30 hours , depending on the amount of completista that you are .
"Sunset Overdrive" definitely breaks the mold when it comes to post-apocalyptic games, and while it's risky from a developmental point of view, the reward is one of the dumbest, unique and simply fun experiences to be enjoyed on the Xbox One.
Pros: A rewarding and immensely satisfying combat system, an elegant open world full of colorful candies, a silly and self-conscious sense of humor, and excellent movement mechanics to explore Sunset City
Cons: Vulgarity and humor are not for everyone, it's relatively short for an open world game, and there are too many search missions
