BEIRUT – Israel fired ground-to-ground missiles at a military outpost near the Syrian capital of Damascus early on Saturday, causing damage but without casualties, The state news from Syria agency reported. SANA, the state news agency, said the missile attack caused structural damage, but gave no details. The report also says that Syrian air defenses shot down two of the Israeli missiles.

Israel has carried out a series of air strikes against suspected arms shipments that are believed to go to the militant group Hezbollah of Lebanon, which is fighting alongside Syrian government forces in the civil war.

Also in the suburbs of Damascus, government forces resumed their flight strikes and bombings of areas controlled by the rebels on Saturday, killing and injuring several people, according to the Observatory and a search and rescue group of Civil Defense Syria, also known as the White Helmets.

The Observatory said that six people were killed in the air strike by the government on Saturday against Arbeen, while the White Helmets said that air strikes in the suburb of Harasta killed one person and wounded others, including women and children. .

Syrian state television also said rebels bombed several neighborhoods in Damascus, injuring at least three people.

The government and the opposition resumed peace talks in Geneva on Tuesday. The negotiations organized by the United States stopped during the weekend, but are scheduled to resume on Tuesday.
