The 2022 Mercedes-Benz CLS 450 4MATIC arrives with an update that gives the coupe-inspired sedan an updated look and tuned technology. Sales in the United States begin in early 2022 and the company is not yet discussing pricing.
The CLS 2022 now comes standard with the AMG Line styling package on the exterior that includes different side sills and glossy black accents. The sedan uses a revised front bumper with a more fluid design for the entries in the lower fascia, and the front splitter is now chrome. The fitted grille takes on a three-dimensional Mercedes-Benz star pattern with a chrome-plated glass surface. The LED headlights are clear in the outer corner, rather than amber on the current model. At the rear, there are chrome trapezoidal exhaust tips. A simulated diffuser runs between the pipes.
Starling Blue Metallic is now an exterior paint color. New five-spoke and multi-spoke designs are also available for the 19-inch wheels. The 20-inch pieces have Tremolite Gray or High-Gloss Black color options.
Inside, the CLS 2022 has a modified steering wheel with capacitive sensors to monitor vehicle characteristics and has a Nappa leather cover. Buyers have options for open-pore brown walnut and high-gloss gray wood expanded trim. Neva Gray / Magma Gray and two-tone Sienna Brown / Black are new leather upholstery options.
The CLS 450 has a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder turbocharged engine with an integrated soft-start generator hybrid system. The combustion engine generates 362 horsepower (270 kilowatts) and 369 pound-feet (500 Newton-meters). The starter generator can deliver up to 21 hp (16 kW) and 184 pound-feet (250 Nm) of torque. The powertrain goes from a nine-speed automatic to an all-wheel drive system.
Mercedes’ announcement of the changes only addressed the CLS 450 4MATIC. When asked about other variants, the company said Motor1.com: “In the facelift, the CLS 2022 will be available in the US exclusively as the CLS 450 4MATIC.”
