The United States is full of CEOs – 195,530, to be exact.
Using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), we find which states have the highest concentration of executive directors. California topped the list by a wide margin, with 30,290 CEOs, while the Florida runner-up had 20,860. Many of Golden State's top executives come from the technology industry, including Tim Cook (Apple) and Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook). Florida has a wide range of businesses, including the Publix supermarket chain and cruise ships such as Carnival Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean Cruises.
According to BLS data, the average CEO in California earns $ 228,270 a year, while the average CEO in Florida earns $ 187,870 a year, relatively smaller. However, the avergae CEO of an S & P 500 company earned more than $ 1 million per month in 2018. CEO salaries have generated criticism in recent years for being large relative to the company's average salary. For example, the CEO of McDonald's earned 3.101 times what an average McDonald's employee earned.
However, some of the richest names in business were not included in the list. Jeff Bezos's Amazon is headquartered in Washington, home to just 3,690 CEOs.
