Texas mother dies after entire family of 7, including newborn baby, contracted coronavirus

CYPRESS, Texas – A Texas mother of five who has been in a medically induced coma fighting for her life after contracting COVID-19 has died.

According to an update posted to her GoFundMe account, Cypress’s Victoria Gallardo, 33, died on March 16. She leaves behind her husband, Armando, and five young children.

“Please understand that you fought this battle to your last breath,” the update read. “Although many family, friends and others prayed for her recovery, we acknowledge that she is healthy now, but not in the way we hoped.”

Houston’s KTRK-TV first reported on Victoria’s battle with the coronavirus earlier this month. Her husband said they were taking the virus seriously. They wore masks and practiced social distancing, but their 9-year-old daughter contracted the virus after showing symptoms one day at school.

“We were wearing masks everywhere,” Armando said at the time.

The family of seven fell ill, including their newborn daughter when she was just 11 days old.

“She developed a very high fever, she didn’t want to eat, she slept a lot,” Armando said of her newborn. “We worried so much. We didn’t think she would make it at all.”

But as he and the kids got better, he said Victoria got worse.

“He has no health problems. There are no underlying conditions,” Armando said at the time. “She entered the ICU and is in critical condition.”

Armando now keeps the couple’s five young children. Friends and family hope that the GoFundMe account will help raise money for the family. Victoria was a military veteran, according to her friends. If you are interested in donating, visit Victoria’s GoFundMe here.
