Tesla to build its next Gigafacting near Austin, Texas

Tesla will build its latest Gigafacting near Austin, Texas, Chief Executive Elon Musk announced on Wednesday during the company’s earnings call.

The area has about 2,000 acres and will be about 15 minutes from downtown Austin, Musk said. He said the factory would be an “ecological paradise” and would remain open to the public.

“We’re going to make it a factory that’s going to be right on the Colorado River. So we’re really going to do a boardwalk on you, hiking, biking trail. It’s basically going to be an ecological . Heaven, “Musk said.

Musk said the site would be used to build the company’s Siebertruck, its Semi and its Model 3 and Model Y for the eastern part of North America.

Musk also said that Tesla will continue to develop in California, where it will manufacture Tesla Model S and Model X for North America and Tesla Model 3 and Tesla Model Y for North America.

Travis County, where the new car plant will reside, voted earlier this month that a minimum $ 14.7 million Tesla tax break was given to build the plant to bring employment to the area. Tesla employs about 10,000 people at its only American car plant, which is today in Fremont, California.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said after the announcement, “Texas has the best workforce in the country and we have created an economic environment that allows companies like Tesla to become new and successful.”

“Tesla’s Gigafacting will keep Texas, Texas economy strongest in the nation and create thousands of jobs for hard-working Texas. I look forward to the tremendous benefits that Tesla’s investment will bring to Central Texas and across the state . “
