Tesla may outfit Model S and X with longer-range motors

There is no timetable for when the engines, nicknamed Raven, would arrive at the delivery cars. The tipsters say that the power plants could arrive "relatively soon" along with the upgrades to improve the load rate.

If the rumor is accurate, it would represent a logical step for Tesla. A greater reach is an obvious selling point, and could help Tesla to defend itself from the EVs of the competition of the likes of Audi and Mercedes. Meanwhile, a faster load could be virtually necessary if Tesla is to take full advantage of its third-generation Superchargers. The most important question is whether PMR would significantly affect the price. While it is affordable enough to sit on the Model 3, it has not been used in Tesla's higher performance cars so far.
