As early as in the previous week, a large lack of TBE vaccine was reported throughout Sweden. After reporting a large number of cases of TBE * last year, it may be that many wanted to protect themselves from the summer.
Due to the high demand, the vaccine has expired at several suppliers. But now the big shortage seems to be over.
– The Swedish Medicines Agency has given the dispensation to sell the vaccine in foreign packaging. This means that both products available in Sweden can be sold to both children and adults, "says Eva Arlander, Unit Manager for Medicinal Products in Use, to P4 Kronoberg.
Demand for TBE vaccine has been enormous this year in Sweden, which has made that the vaccine has expired at the suppliers. One of the explanations is believed to be a record number of cases of TBE last year and that many therefore wanted to protect themselves from the summer of the year.
* TBE is spread through ticks and may cause brain or brain inflammation.
