In the past, predominantly foreign travelers suffered from Campylobacter infection, but today it is the most common bacterial gastrointestinal disease in Sweden. In Östergötland, the disease increased from 285 registered cases in 2008 to 520 cases in 2017, reports the news agency Sirén.

Food standing out in the heat – perhaps awaiting the glow to be perfect – is another explanation.

– The last two, three years we have seen an increase in campylobacter in people who have eaten hamburger who have not been

Although restaurants serve hamburgers pink, home cooks are not going to try it.

– The restaurants have nice pieces of meat that they paint themselves. Meat that we buy in the store has been painted in one place, transported, packaged and brought into contact with our own bacteria at home. Therefore, it often has campylobacter itself and should be transplanted, says Britt Åkerlind .

– Yes.

From August 2016 to June 2017, a large outbreak of campylobacter infection was linked with fresh chicken.
