Steelers-Titans postpone: The game will be rescheduled after additional positive COVID-19 tests

The Tennessee Titans and Pittsburgh Steelers will not play in Week 4 as originally scheduled and the game will be rescheduled for this season.

The NFL announced the moratorium on Thursday in a statement:

The Pittsburgh-Tennessee game scheduled for Week 4 will be rescheduled later this season after an additional Titans player and a personnel member tested positive for COVID-19 today. A new game date will be announced shortly.

The decision to postpone the game was made to ensure the health and safety of players, coaches and game day personnel. The Titans facility will remain closed and the team will not have to do any individual activity until further notice.

NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero Five players and six personnel tested positive Overall for COVID-19. ESPN’s Adam Shere later clarifies that Two of those positive tests were discovered this morning. A coach of the Titans also tested positive last weekend.

The Titans and Vikings played on Sunday in Minnesota. On the news of positive COVID-19 trials with Tennessee, both teams suspended all in-person club activities starting on Tuesday. On Wednesday morning, the NFL announced that the Week 4 matchup would be postponed and reports have surfaced that the league hopes it will be re-scheduled for Monday or Tuesday; Additional positive COVID-19 tests have made that impossible. The Vikings have no positive matters at the moment given the proximity shared by the players on the field.

The NFL and NFL Players Association released a statement earlier this week acknowledging their decision to suspend football activities in two cities:

“On Tuesday morning, the results of the Titans COVID test returned three new players positive and five new personnel positive. The Titans will suspend the man’s club activities starting today. Similarly, the Vikings, who played the Titans on Sunday, also Suspend. Individual club activities. Both clubs are working closely with the NFL and NFLPA, including our infectious disease specialists, to evaluate close contact, conduct additional testing and monitor growth. Pittsburgh had improved to 3–0 in the youth NFL season and the Texans returned on Sunday. They are scheduled to play against Philadelphia on Sunday, October 11. Tennessee is also 3-0 after defeating Minnesota. They are scheduled to play Buffalo on Sunday 11 October, but are even to be questioned. The quarantine period is often referred to as the two-week period. If the Titans do not get the status soon, it could affect future competition.
