The Pittsburgh Steelers still have a lot to accomplish before the draft happens, but it’s never too early for a mock draft. This drill has the team tackling many of their current holes.
With Maurkice Pouncey retiring and other starters leaving the Steelers through free agency, there will be plenty of gaps to fill. Matt Feiler will be gone, but Kevin Dotson will assume the starting job at the vacant left guard. The main targets during the offseason will be looking for players to fill those gaps at left and center tackle.
This will not be an easy task as every team in the NFL wants a solid front that protects their quarterback. Ben Roethlisberger has one more year left before he retires, but the future Hall of Famer is not guaranteed to return this season. The Steelers will have to worry about a replacement for him sooner rather than later. Now, they have to worry about rebuilding much of their offensive lineup.
The 2021 NFL Draft will be very important for the future of the team in the future. They need to have a successful class to stay competitive and a strong group when the Roethlisberger era ends. Searching for a new quarterback could be a minor task with a front protecting a young prospect entering the team.
This will be a huge positional group to target this offseason, so the future is set. Other depth concerns throughout the roster will likely be addressed at receiver, linebacker, defensive line, and more. These needs will fluctuate based on what happens to lose money to stay below the cap and bring in free agents. Here’s what I have the Steelers doing in my last seven-round mock draft:
