The Atlanta Braves and the St. Louis Cardinals face each other in the rubber match of their three major league action games from Busch Stadium on Sunday Night Baseball.
The Atlanta Braves will look to win the series despite losing two on Saturday with a final score of 6-3. Austin Riley, Tyler Flowers and Ozzie Albies had a double and an RBI, while Nick Markakis scored 2 for 4 and Dansby Swanson and Josh Donaldson had a base hit to end the Atlanta offense as the Braves had seven hits as a team in defeat. Mike Soroka allowed two runs, one deserved, five hits and struck out five in six innings of work, regardless of the decision. Dan Winkler finished with the loss in the relay, two fall to 1-1 this season. Julio Tehran will start the final and is 3-4 with a 3.67 ERA and 62 strikeouts this season. In his career, Tehran is 3-3 with a 2.77 ERA and 35 strikeouts against St. Louis.
The St. Louis Cardinals will look to win the series after the series with a victory after their victory on Saturday. Jedd Gyorko had a three-run homer in a pinch role, while Matt Carpenter went 3-for-4 with two runs batted in and Paul Goldschmidt added three hits and one RBI of his own. Marcell Ozuna and Yadier Molina also had low blows in the victory of San Luis. Dakota Hudson allowed two runs and five hits in 6.1 job innings, regardless of the decision. Andrew Miller managed to win this season 2-2, while Jordan Hicks achieved his tenth save of the year. Jack Flaherty will start Game Three and is 4-3 with a 4.19 ERA and 58 strikeouts this season. In his career, Flaherty is 1-1 with a 6.75 ERA and 12 strikeouts against Atlanta.
Atlanta has 22-6 in the last 28 Sunday Starts in Tehran and 11-4 in its last 15 games overall, while the low is 4-0 in its last 4 games against Central National League. St. Louis has 5-11 in Flaherty's last 16 starts and 6-15 in his last 21 games overall, while the low is 4-0 in his last 4 games after a win. Atlanta has 5-1 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams in St. Louis.
I can understand that St. Louis is the favorite at home after his victory on Saturday, in addition to the fact that Flaherty is a much better pitcher at home than he is on the road, with a 2.48 ERA versus an ERA of 6.20. highway. However, Atlanta is a better team than we saw on Saturday, and Flaherty still has to allow some runs when he takes the mound. Tehran has had its own hiccup in its own right, but has allowed one run or less in its last four starts. I just think that Atlanta and the extra money is too good to get up on Sunday, so I'll be on the side of the Braves here.
