Some of the best photos of Sunday’s Supermoon

On Sunday, the only visible supermoon of 2017 joined the Earth, appearing larger and brighter than normal in the night sky.

This Supermoon not only illuminated the night skies, but also ignited spirits online, as astrophysicists argued that the moon might not have lived up to its "super" name.

That did not stop the fans of photography from going out to examine the night skies when the moon reaches what is called perigee & # 39; or the position in the lunar orbit in an elliptical way when the moon gets closer to the Earth. And they were not disappointed by what they saw.

Take a look:

The nearest moon can cause a strange climate and cause the tides to be stronger than normal.

If you missed this one, there are two more Supermoons that will arrive very soon in 2018.

The full moons on January 1 and 31, 2018 will also be Supermoons.

NASA says that if you can only catch one of the next Supermoons in January, the one on January 31, 2018 promises to be especially magnificent.

That night will also have a lunar eclipse, when the moon, earth and sun line up. That often causes the moon to glow with a reddish hue, in what is known as the "blood moon."

" We are seeing all the sunrises and sunsets on Earth at that moment reflected from the surface of the Moon," NASA scientist Sarah Noble said in a statement.

Astrophysicists say that the Supermoon often "sounds a lot more impressive than it really is".

Jackie Faherty of the American Museum of Natural History in New York says that the moonrise (which happens right around sunset during the full moon) is always a good time to look up at the sky.

"The Supermoon sounds much more impressive than it really is", Faherty wrote Business Insider in an email, explaining that to an untrained eye, a Supermoon can appear no more "super", as in, larger or brighter than a normal moon.

Some scientists have pointed out that there really is nothing super prankster about Supermoon, because it only marginally approaches Earth:

"If a 16.1-inch pizza is super-for you, in compared to a 16.0-inch pizza, then we have a vocabulary problem …: "Tyson wrote in a follow-up Tweet .

A Supermoon is about 40,000 kilometers (~ 24,855 miles) closer to Earth, on average, than a micromoon, when the moon is farthest from us.

Whereas the moon is always more than 225,744 miles away, it is not a major change.

Still, you can not deny the beauty of the full moon, regardless of its size:

See you in January, Supermoon!
