SLO County hits another daily COVID-19 case count record


San Luis Obispo County added 343 new cases of COVID-19 in three days, bringing the county’s total of 8,803 confirmed cases as of December 21.

On Saturday, the county reported 229 new cases, the highest single-day case count since the onset of the epidemic. Another 60 cases were reported on Sunday and 54 cases on Monday.

The county’s previous record was set on December 10, when 196 cases were filed.

Forty patients were hospitalized, of which nine are in ICU. Another 1,782 people are recovering at home and health officials say 6,909 people have been recovered.

The death toll for COVID-19 in San Luis Obispo County rose to 60 on Monday. No additional information about the patient who died was immediately available.

  • Cayucos – 32
  • Avila Beach – 13
  • San Simeon – 7

The location of 28 additional cases is under investigation, and the other 11 are listed as “other”, including communities with fewer than five cases. The Public Health Department is not identifying those locations.

Community COVID-19 test sites are currently open to the public in San Luis Obispo, Paso Robles, Morro Bay, Grover Beach and Nipomo.
