Skills and gameplay of the new Overwatch Hero Ashe detailed

As revealed during the BlizzCon 2018 opening ceremony, Overwatch is getting a new character: Ashe. Based on what we have seen so far, the leader of the Deadlock gang will mix the existing rhythms of the game in an important way. After his announcement, Blizzard held the Overwatch panel: What's Next and went into detail about the character, specifically his story, the design spirit behind his creation and how he plays.

During the panel, Michael Chu, the main writer of Overwatch, explained that Ashe, like most of the other villains in the game, came from a rich and privileged background. Her parents were executive directors and she had everything she could wish for. However, a chance encounter with McCree opened his eyes to the criminal world. Together, they committed crimes and Ashe discovered that she was good at it, and finally decided that she could distinguish herself in the world of villainy.

With McCree and two other nameless figures, she founded the band Deadlock. They made big heists to make a name for themselves as they struggled to write their names in the legend of the American Wild West. Ashe's background and education also allowed her to take lessons from her parents and use them to organize the gangs to make them work better, effectively establishing a criminal fellowship. B.O.B (Big Omnic Butler / Bodyguard) is an accompanying character who is always by his side and also influences the way he plays in a big way.

When talking about his design, chief designer Geoff Goodman said that they wanted another character focused on the weapons in the game, and this thought has defined the way Ashe plays. Ashe's main weapon is called "Viper" and is a lever rifle with two firing modes. In primary firing mode, spit bullets quickly. However, in alternate shooting mode it is a bit slower, since Ashe looks down to see precision shots. In this mode, the Viper must be recharged after each shot, but when it is dismissed, the players will have enough control since the recoil is relatively low.

In terms of skills, the Coach Gun is a cut-off shotgun type weapon that causes a decent amount of damage, but is mainly used to create distance. In the impact, knock down Ashe and his target, which will be very useful to get a Winston or a Reinhardt to be charged with you. In these situations, you can also use it to hit enemies in the air, then use the juggling state to shoot some precise shots with the Viper.

His next skill is dynamite, which does a lot of damage but takes a while to explode. This is because your fuse must be completely burned before you turn on the explosives. However, when firing manually, the detonation can be forced, although this naturally requires a firm hand.

His ultimate ability is something completely new for Overwatch: a supporting supporting character for Ashe. When he blows his final skill, B.O.B jumps from behind her and runs forward. The first character he connects with is crushed in the air, while other characters in the splash zone will also be eliminated. Although players can use skills to escape from it, if they are hit, they will not have air control, leaving them open for Ashe or other characters to eliminate.

B.O.B will finally stop advancing and unleash a barrage of shots. Interestingly, B.O.B works almost like a second character in the sense that it can be healed, slapped and weakened like any other. This means that, for example, an Ana can Nano Increase it to increase its production of damage. If he is able to enter the back line of an enemy team, it could be devastating, so when he appears, he intends to be a high priority target.

Ashe was revealed through a new animated short called "Reunion". As you may have guessed, the cinematic brings Ashe and McCree together and explores some of their history before everything falls into chaos. There are a lot of other characters in the short that could be new characters in their own right, in Blizzard's own words, but for now we have the deadly leader of the Deadlock gang. Watch Ashe's video game to see more of her in action.
