The chills are submerged in the individual digits in the Midwest and the 20s and 30s in the east.
Snow is developing in the unusually far south of the US. UU Thursday night, from northern New Orleans to Atlanta and up to Raleigh, North Carolina. Some areas can see more than 1 inch of snow. A warning of winter weather has been issued for the deep south.
Also, heavy lake effect snow is possible from Michigan to New York. Numerous warnings of winter storms, warnings of winter weather and snow warnings with lake effect have been issued for the region.
Some areas in western New York, south of Buffalo, could see up to 20 inches of snow in the next 24 hours.
Problems with the wind in Santa Ana
December is known to be the most common month for the Santa Ana winds in southern California, but fires of the magnitude that are currently observed are not as common in December .

Winds continue to pick up on Thursday morning, and are forecast to blast off 30 to 50 mph along the coast and about 80 mph in the mountains.
Red flag warnings continue through Saturday for southern California and strong wind alerts continue through Friday.
Wind gusts today in the mountains could be 80 to 90 mph.
Hurricane-force winds continue even through Saturday, with gusts reaching 20 to 30 mph along the coast and about 60 mph inland.
