LENEXA, Kan. –

A man wielding a weapon entered the Lenexa Costco at 9350 Marshall Drive around 11 a.m. Sunday. Shoppers and employees say he was screaming and waving a gun.

"A guy in camouflage came in with a revolver and started screaming and waving his gun at everyone," said Dennise Meyer, who works at the store. "He said 'do not lock me up' or something like that."

"I was in the back of the store, there were a lot of people running around and then I heard screams and then I heard 'shooter'." , said Tim Farr, who was shopping with his wife when the incident occurred.

People were ordered to evacuate the store and ran to the exits in the back of the building according to both buyers and employees.

"It was a stampede, I mean they all ran, they just evacuated as quickly as possible," said Meyer ]

Meanwhile, an off-duty police officer who was shopping in the store took action.

"There was a policeman there shopping, so he was not wearing a uniform." When he discovered what was happening, he took out his gun and his license plate and held it so that everyone knew he was a cop, "Meyer said.

The shooting is being investigated by the Involved Shot Team of the Johnson County Officer.

UPDATE: NOVEMBER 27, 1:20 PM – Lenexa police tell Alyssa Donovan at the scene that a man entered the Costco store brandishing a weapon. He was shot to death by an off-duty officer who shopped at the store. No other injuries were reported. The Johnson County officer involved in the firing team, consisting of officers from various agencies will conduct the investigation.
