Seth Meyers will host the Golden Globe Awards 2018


The Golden Globes have a new host of gold.

Seth Meyers will host the 75th annual Golden Globe Awards in January 2018. The comedian and Late Night host badumes the hosting duties of friend Jimmy Fallon after the presenter of Tonight Show led the show in 2017.

"The Hollywood Foreign Press Association is excited that Seth Meyers will host the 75th Annual Golden Globes," HFPA President Meher Tatna said in a statement, according to Entertainment Weekly . "With his natural comedic wit and innate ability to captivate audiences, Seth will help us continue the festive tradition of recognizing the best in television and film at the Fiesta of the Year."

Meyers follows in the footsteps of a few ex Saturday Night Live alumni : Amy Poehler and Tina Fey also hosted the 2013, 2014 and 2015 editions of the annual broadcast. He also hosted the 2014 Emmy Awards.

The comedian was one of the few people he approached for the role. It was reported that Tiffany Haddish, Ellen DeGeneres, Poehler and Fey were approached to present this year's program, according to Variety . Poehler and Fey took over from Ricky Gervais for three years starting in 2010, before returning for another year in 2016.

The concert comes after Meyers has received critical acclaim for his political coverage in the market night with his "A Closer Miren" segment that often addresses the Trump administration.

The 2018 gold balloons are set to air on January 7 on NBC.
