Serena Williams bounced back from French Open with an injury to Akilis

Three-time French Open champion Serena Williams retreated from the tournament on Wednesday, as Akil’s injury resulted in her defeat.

She made the announcement shortly before her second-round match against Tsivana Pironkova.

“I really wanted to give it a try here. It’s my Akilis who don’t have enough time to recover properly [US] Open, “Williams said at his news conference.” I was able to do it somewhat better, but just watching this tournament for a long time – will I be able to get through enough matches? For me, I don’t think I could. Struggling to walk, so at that kind of Taylor’s sign I should try to overcome. ”

Williams, 39, said she decided to make a comeback after trying to warm-up for Wednesday’s match and felt she was limping.

She said she believed she would need two weeks of rest and four to six weeks of recovery. She said she would “not more than likely” play another tournament this year.

Williams was originally hurt during a semi-final loss to Victoria Azarenka at the US Open earlier this month and withdrew from the Italian Open shortly after. He called the injury “bad timing and bad luck” on Wednesday.

The exit extended a grand slam drought for the 23-time major champion, who is looking to tie Margaret Court’s 24 all-time record since winning the 2017 Australian Open.

Since her second-round defeat in Paris in 2014, Williams has been eliminated in any Grand Slam tournament as soon as possible and for the second time in her career she has pulled out of the Grand Slam tournament. Williams withdrew from the 2018 French Open – her first Grand Slam tournament since giving birth to her daughter – ahead of a fourth-round match against Maria Sharapova, citing a pulled muscle in her chest.

Pironkova, who received a wild card in the event, advanced to the third round via a walkover. She reached her quarter-finals of the US Open, her first tournament in three years since the birth of a child, before losing to Williams in three sets.
