Republican Sen. David Perdue of Georgia has taken a digital campaign ad featuring a manipulated photo of his Democratic rival John Ossoff, a Jew with an enlarged nose.
Before being removed, the Facebook ad featured grainy photos of New York’s Ossoff and Sen. Charles Schumer, who are also Jewish, “reading DEMOCRATS! Fight back for help
News outlet Forward first reported that the image was manipulated and Osfo’s nose appeared larger than the original photo.
A Purdue spokesman said in a statement on Monday that the image had been removed from Facebook, calling it an “unintentional error” by an outside vendor without naming the seller.
The spokesperson said, “Any person who knows this was anything other than an inadvertent error that is deliberately misrepresenting Senator Purdue’s strong and consistent record.”
But Ossoff insisted that it was only an error.
“The digital attack of sitting US Senator David Perdue distorted my face to enlarge and enlarge my nose. I am Jewish. This is the oldest, most obvious, least original anti-Semitic trope in history, “Osfo said in a statement.” Senator, literally no one accepts your excuse. You can start with an unqualified apology to the Jewish community of Georgia. “
Perudé is seeking a second term in November as Republicans seek to capture the White House and Senate majority.
