Scarlett Johansson Says Actors Should Keep Acting And Stop Making Political Statements

Hollywood actress Scarlett Johansson rejected the public compulsion to seek political statements from celebrities, saying that actors should just act.

Johansson made the comments during an interview with “The Gentlewoman,” a British magazine.

“I don’t think actors have an obligation to have a public role in society,” said the star of the popular Avengers superhero movie franchise.

“Some people want to do it, but the idea that you are forced to do it because you are in the public eye is unfair. You did not choose to be a politician, you are a actor,” She explained.

Johansson has faced a fair amount of criticism throughout his career. She was accused of “whitewashing” in 2017 when she took on the lead role in “Ghost In The Shell,” a classic Japanese anime story. Later in 2018, he crossed the transgender lobby when he took on the role of a transgender man in the movie “Rub and Tug.” He initially defended his decision, but eventually withdrew from that film after public outrage.

She went on to the Gentlewoman interview to exhort other actors to keep acting.

“Your job is to reflect our experience to ourselves; your job is to be a mirror for an audience, to be able to have an empathic experience through art. That that’s your job, “continued Johansson.

“Whatever my political views, all of those things, I feel most successful when people can sit in a theater or at home and disappear into a story or a performance and see pieces of themselves, or they can connect with themselves through from this experience of watching this performance or story or interaction between actors or whatever, “he added.

“And they are affected by it and they are thinking about it, and feel something. Know? They have an emotional reaction: good, bad, uncomfortable, validating, whatever, “explained Johansson.

“That is “My job,” he said. “The other things are not my job.”

Johansson stars in Marvel’s latest superhero movie, “Black Widow,” which was scheduled to hit theaters and on Disney’s streaming service on May 1, but was delayed until July 9.
