Totals provided by the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) and the Santa Barbara County Department of Public Health may differ due to a difference in reporting methods – the BOP reports that both labs and Clinically diagnosed COVID-19 cases, while the county only reports laboratory-diagnosed cases. Laboratory diagnostics is the number of cases reported by laboratories based on COVID-19 test results. Clinical diagnoses are made by physicians based on symptoms reported by a patient and not on the result of a laboratory test.
