San Francisco orders 10-day quarantine for travelers outside the Bay Area

San Francisco Health Director Drs. Grant Colefax on Thursday announced a new travel order requiring 10 days of mandatory quarantine when traveling, walking or returning to the city from anywhere outside the Bay Area.

Colefax did not provide details of how the city would enforce the order, but said one could fail to mistreat someone.

“This is not really the time to travel,” Colfax said at the press briefing. “The consequences are dire. We simply ask that people understand and comply with the health order because it is the right thing to do. The city may take additional enforcement steps if the situation demands. There is a violation or failure to comply with this order. Misdeed. “

The order requires anyone who quarantines for 10 days to arrive in San Francisco if they spend any time outside the following nine Bay Area counties: San Mateo, Santa Clara, Alameda, Contra Costa, Solano , Sonoma, Napa, Marin and Santa Cruz.

“COVID-19 cases are increasing in San Francisco and across the country. Bay Area hospitals are close to overwhelmed, ”said San Francisco Mayor London Breed. “We must do whatever we can to contain the virus and prevent its spread in our community. Now is not the time to travel and highlight the risks or expose others. We need to do the right thing to save ourselves, our neighbors and our loved ones and make sure that when it is over we can celebrate together. “

The new order includes strong language discouraging any nonprofit travel, even within the Bay Area.

Essential employees such as medical professionals and those providing essential infrastructure work are exempted. (Get the full list of discounts here.)

People in the city said, “People don’t need to get out because of flying from San Francisco International Airport and not staying overnight in San Francisco.”

The journey order 1 became effective from 12:01 am on December and will continue till 12:00 am on 12:01 am, until it is extended.
