San Diego Comic-Con announces dates for November 2021 convention

San Diego Comic-Con is happening this year in some form, shape, or form. Despite Comic-Con International formally canceling the traditional summer convention earlier this year, the team has announced the dates of a smaller convention that it plans to host later this year. According to a new press release distributed by Comic-Con organizers, San Diego Comic-Con will now take place at the San Diego Convention Center over Thanksgiving weekend. Rather than a week-long event, this year’s San Diego Comic-Con will be an intimate three-day event, running from Friday, November 26 to Sunday, November 28.

The company is calling this year’s convention “Comic-Con Special Edition,” and convention center organizers and officials have yet to decide on the cost of the badge, attendance capacity, and “related information.”

“While we have been able to move from in-person meetings to limited online events, the loss of revenue has had a sharp impact on the organization, as it has with many small businesses, requiring reduced work hours and a reduction in employee pay, among other things, other issues, “Comic-Con spokesman David Glanzer said in a statement distributed by the team. “Hopefully this event will bolster our financial reserves and mark a slow return to larger in-person meetings in 2022.”

Like virtually any other convention in 2020, Comic-Con was canceled due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. Now that vaccines are beginning to be available in the United States, the country has slowly begun to reopen with social events. In the past month, both New York and California, two of the last vestiges in the country, have begun to reopen their movie theaters with limited capacity.

“Southern California, you will be a beneficiary of this,” California Governor Gavin Newsom previously said of the theater situation. “Specifically, LA will be a huge beneficiary of this new metric that will likely be met on Friday. And over the weekend and into the next week, you will see more activity, more relaxation of the levels. That’s encouraging and I hope people get excited about what this means moving forward, because we have a number of other thresholds and other goals that will allow us to move forward with more clarity, more conviction, and more confidence as we move into the next one. a few weeks and the next few months. “
