In September last year, ZTE unveiled the world’s first phone with an under display camera. While the ZTE Axon 20 5G is currently the only phone with an under-display selfie camera, the tech is expected to be a bit more common by the end of this year. Samsung, which has long been working on under-display camera technology, is also rumored to be launching its first under-display camera phone this year.
Although Samsung has yet to expand its under-display camera technology, Samsung Display today posted a video on Weibo, which teases its new OLED panel with an under-display selfie camera. However, Samsung Display’s new under-display technology is not for use in smartphones. It will come in the notebook first.
As can be seen in the video above, Samsung’s under-display camera technology can make it possible for notebooks to have an almost bezel-free screen with a 93% screen-to-body ratio. The panel is incredibly thin at just 1 mm and weighs 130 grams. Samsung Display has not yet shared much information about the technology, so it is unclear if Samsung’s first notebook with a “blade bezel” screen will arrive later this year.
