“Thank you to all the foreign press in Hollywood,” said Sacha Baron Cohen, accepting the Golden Globe award for best musical or comedy film on Sunday night. His speech only got more scathing from there.
“I have to say, this movie could not have been possible without my co-star, a new talent who came out of nowhere and turned out to be a comedic genius,” he said. Borat Post Movie said the star. “I mean Rudy Giuliani. I mean, who can get more laughs out of one zipper? Amazing.”
“Our movie was just the beginning for him,” continued Baron Cohen. Rudy went on to star in a series of comedy movies. Hits like ‘Four Seasons Landscaping’, ‘Hair Dye Another Day’ and the court drama ‘A Very Public Fart’ ”.
Getting a bit more serious, Baron Cohen thanked the tragically stolen “revelation” Maria Bakalova, as well as her producers, writers, director Jason Woliner, and his “incredibly brave” team “who risked arrest, risk contracting. COVID, and they did it because we all believed deeply in releasing this film before the elections to show the danger of lies, hatred, conspiracies and the power of truth, empathy and democracy.
Moments later, Baron Cohen won his second award of the night for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy. “Wait, Donald Trump is contesting the result,” he joked. “He’s claiming that a lot of dead people voted, which is very rude to say about the HFPA.”
