Sabrina is in motion. The series Chilling Adventures of Sabrina originally set in motion at the CW in September as a potential companion to Riverdale obtained a direct episode of 20 episodes, two seasons, order of the series on Netflix.
The project now untitled, based on the graphic novel by Archie Comics The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, comes from the same team as Riverdale : Roberto Aguirre- Sacasa, Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. TV. Aguirre-Sacasa, who wrote the Riverdale pilot and Lee Toland Krieger, who directed it, are reenacting their roles in the pilot episode Sabrina .
While most other popular Archie Comics characters are found in Riverdale Sabrina the Teenage Witch had vanished strikingly from Archie's dramatic series with CW, so it made sense when the chain announced in September that it was developing a separate series about the young witch.
It is said that, probably based on the success of Riverdale on Netflix, the broadcast platform gave Warner Bros. TV production studio a two-season pickup offer that might not reject The CW , which also has another female witch drama underway, a reboot Bewitched with Jane the Virgin creator Jennie Snyder Urman, was committed only to development. In addition, when going with Netflix, WBTV retains full ownership of the Sabrina series. ( Riverdale is a co-production with CBS TV Studios according to CW's business model, and therefore The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina stayed on the broadcast network.) The play of the series reminds a bit of The unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, originally chosen by NBC for a race in the middle of the season before Netflix intervened with an order of two seasons. Netflix's interest in Sabrina is not surprising. Riverdale has been a success story for both CW and the broadcast service, which has national SVOD rights for dark and soapy drama and takes it internationally in many territories. The young viewers who discover and catch up on the first season during the summer by bingeing on Netflix are credited, at least in part, with Riverdale in the evaluation of the second year season at the CW East autumn.
the relocation of the potential complementary series will not allow CW to build an Archie universe the way it does with the DC series, where the characters intersect frequently. (The network has another branch in the works, the Supernatural spinoff Wayward Sisters to be introduced as an indirect episode planted from the mothership series at the end of this season)
] A dark drama in the horror genre, Sabrina's new series is a world of bubbling 1996-2003 Sabrina, the Teenage Witch comedy series starring Melissa Joan Hart. The new project reimagines the origin and the adventures of Sabrina the Teenage Witch as a dark history of coming of age that deals with horror, occultism and, of course, witchcraft. Tonally in the line of Rosemary & # 39; s Baby and The Exorcist, this adaptation finds Sabrina struggling to reconcile her dual nature, half witch, half mortal, while facing the forces of evil that threaten her, her family and the world of daylight humans inhabit.
The executive of Aguirre-Sacasa produces the project with Krieger, Berlanti Prods. Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter as well as Jon Goldwater of Archie Comics.
