33-year-old Johnson Press will replace Taylor, who will not be retained from Doug Pederson’s staff.
Johnson has been with the Gators since 2018. He included him as quarterback coach and became the offensive coordinator in the 2020 season.
Prior to then, Johnson spent one year as his OC / QBs coach in Houston and three years with Mississippi State. At Mississippi State, Johnson helped Dak Prescott become an NFL draft pick. But it is also worth pointing out, as Philadelphia Inquirer Mike Sealski’s story is that Johnson recruited Trap Hurts while in Mississippi State and Hurts has been known since he was 4 years old.
Johnson interviewed for head coaching jobs and South Carolina and Boise State and is considered one of the top young offensive coaches in the country.
It will be Johnson, along with head coach Nick Sirianni and offensive coordinator Shane Steichen in the top offensive coaching positions for the Eagles next season. It will be a very young coaching staff. Sirini is 39, sports coordinator Kevin Patulo is 39, Steichen is 35, Johnson is 33 and defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon is 37.
In addition to coaching Presscott, Johnson also helped get Gators quarterback Kyle Trask to some big numbers in 2020. Trask completed 69% of his passes for 4,283 yards with 43 touchdowns and just 8 interceptions in 2020. Prior to Tusk, Johnson coached Felipe Franks. .
Johnson, who played quarterback in Utah, began his coaching career in 2010 as QBs coach. He was promoted as offensive coordinator for two seasons before leaving for Mississippi State.
