LOS ANGELES – A New Orleans Saints legend was in the crowd at the LA Memorial Coliseum on Sunday, but he had reason to root for the Los Angeles Rams.

Jake Kupp, a guard for the Saints from 1967-75, attended the game and saw his grandson, Cooper Kupp, have the best performance of his rookie season.

A third-round pick by the Rams this year, Kupp had eight catches for 116 yards, as he always found holes in the Saints 'defense in Los Angeles' 26-20 victory.

And before the game, Kupp received some encouragement from his grandfather.

"He told me to go out and have fun today," the rookie receiver

With Sunday's good performance, Kupp now has 46 receptions for 597 yards and three touchdowns, and has shown that he could make the FCS program adjustment Eastern Washington.

"He's a pretty sharp guy, awesome and I think he keeps getting better and better," said Rams coach Sean McVay. "You talk about having an understanding about the neck as a quarterback (while) playing as a catcher, and I think that really helps … It's going to continue to be a big part of our offense in the years to come"

The great Kupp's game on Sunday followed a tough loss in the Rams' loss to the Minnesota Vikings last week when he lost a fumble and had a crucial crash.

"There's never a question with him," said Rams quarterback Jared Goff. "He's so sensible and hardworking."

With No. 1 receiver Robert Woods (shoulder) eliminated, the Rams counted on Kupp to recover, and that's exactly what he did.

And Kupp did it with his grandfather, a member of the Hall of Fame of the Saints, in attendance.

"Oh, I would not have missed it," said the young Kupp.
