According to a copy of the 2021 Cup schedule obtained by Motorsport.com, with most dates independently confirmed, the Cup Series will feature more road racing, fewer races on intermediate tracks and its first race since 1970 on dirt.
The copy of the received schedule has been delivered most recently, but not the last.
More road courses
Among the highlights of the schedule, which will be officially released in full by NASCAR on Wednesday afternoon, are six road course events – beginning on May 23, 2021 with a race in the Circuit of America.
Other road course events in the Cup Series will take place on June 6 in Sonoma, California. On July 4 at Road America, August 8 at Watkins Glen, NY, August 15 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course and October 10. Charlotte Rowell
Gone are racing at Kentucky Speedway, Chicagoland Speedway, one at Texas Motor Speedway, one in Michigan, Dover and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval.
Other new races include a spring race in Bristol that will be turned into a dirt track. The last cup race held on the dirt took place on September 30, 1970 at the State Fairgrounds Speedway, half a mile from Rawle, NC.
Also new to the schedule: a second Atlanta race, the All-Star race went on to a race at Texas Motor Speedway and Nashville Supercedeway.
The 2021 playoff schedule will likely feature a single race, with Texas and Kansas likely to date this season.
With the ongoing COVID-19 epidemic, the 2021 schedule, especially each race weekend schedule, will be subject to change.
