The 62,062 seat site was initially scheduled to open at the start of the 2018/19 season. But the problems with the "critical security systems" forced the team to continue playing in their temporary home at Wembley Stadium.
Those involved in the design of the stadium, however, say that the official opening will be worth the wait.
"I really think it's the best stadium in the world," populist architect Christopher Lee told CNN Sport. "It creates great spaces and great experiences, it's designed as a concert hall and it has to do with the noise and the sound of reverberation."
Before the official opening on Wednesday, the Spurs organized two test events at the $ 1.3 billion stadium, first playing a youth team game and then a game between the legends of Tottenham and Inter Milan.
The arena will be the first sports venue in the country without cash, while the two giant screens will be the largest in Western Europe. The land also has the largest stand of a single tear in the United Kingdom.
A retractable artificial surface that slides across the pitch is a nod to Tottenham's hopes of ultimately hosting the NFL Super Bowl and its own London-based franchise.
On the pitch, however, the north side of London needs a quick start of life in its new home.
Mauricio Pochettino's team has not won in the Premier League since February 10, winning just one point in five games, which complicates hopes of qualifying for the Champions League.
