Kate and Gerry McCann, parents of Maddie, the English girl disappeared in May 2007, at the age of three, on the beach of Luz, Algarve, consider "an insult" and "ridiculous" the theory now investigated by the British police that the child woke up at night and left the apartment in search of parents, who dined with friends in a restaurant more than 100 meters away.
The couple again expressed "the certainty" that Maddie was kidnapped. "There were heavy blinds that would be impossible for a child to open," a source close to the family told the British press.
Kate and Gerry became suspects and constituted defendants, however the case was filed.
