Philadelphia police are conducting an internal investigation into a viral video that shows officers handcuffing and pulling two black men out of the premises of a Starbucks store.
"They called the police because these men had not asked for anything," tweeted author Melissa DePino, who posted a video of the arrest on Thursday . "They were waiting for a friend to appear, they did it while they were being handcuffed for doing nothing, and all the other whites wonder why it has never happened to us when we do the same thing."
DePino told local newscaster Billy Penn that the incident happened on Thursday afternoon and that a friend of his shot the video.
The clip shows what appears to be a white man in a vest asking why he is carrying out an arrest. He seems to be the person who was planning to meet black men at Starbucks.
"What did they call them for?" Asks the man to an officer. "Why are there two black guys sitting here meeting me?"
The agent's response is not intelligible in the video.
The same man then asks the officer, "What did they do?", While another voice can be heard saying, "They did not do anything, I saw everything."
Philly Voice pointed to a second, longer video, uploaded to YouTube that shows an agent told the man in the vest that the other two individuals were being arrested for "trespassing". The man called the officers are doing "discrimination".
Ben Waxman, a spokesman for the District Attorney's Office of Philadelphia, told HuffPost that the two men were released on Saturday at 1:30 a.m. He said the prosecutor will not press charges against them.
"We refused to file charges against the two men because there was no evidence that a crime had been committed," Waxman said.
Neither Starbucks nor the Philadelphia Police Department immediately responded to HuffPost's request to comment. However, both made statements on social networks.
The police department tweeted on Friday night that it was "aware" of the incident and was initiating an internal investigation of what happened.
Starbucks tweeted the same night that he was "reviewing the incident with our partners, law enforcement and customers to determine what happened and led to this unfortunate result. "
CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story incorrectly quoted the man in the vest saying: "Because there two black guys sitting here eating? "In fact, he said:" Why are there two black guys sitting here meeting me? "
