Police investigate after pregnant woman’s death in West Houston shooting

HOUSTON – A 22-year-old pregnant woman died after a shooting in West Houston, according to Houston police.

HPD said a report of a shooting arrived at 12:37 p.m. near Wilcrest and Richmond Ave.

“We’re not sure if this is an altercation because of what happened, but there was a report that people may have contacted before the shooting,” said Brian Evans of the Houston Homicide Division.

Authorities said the suspect followed the victim and fired a shot at the car. The bullet went through the rear of the vehicle and into the victim’s back.

“I don’t think he is aware that he hit someone inside the vehicle,” Evans said.

Police said the victim was pregnant. She and the baby died at the scene.

“We understand that (there was) an HPD officer here. In fact, they looked at the vehicle behind. So they were actually here, I think. They were returning to the station when they heard the shots. They approach the vehicle to evaluate her, she was responding in the vehicle, but as soon as a transport on her from outside the vehicle to the sidewalk there was no response that she was declared deceased there ”.

KPRC 2 spoke with Loretta Romo, who said she was the victim’s grandmother.

“She was adorable. There are no words you can explain to him because he always laughs. He loved life, he was beginning to enjoy it. It was becoming independent, ”Romo said.

Police said there were three other people in the car, including the victim’s boyfriend, a young child and one other person. According to the police, the little boy was the one-year-old son of the victim.

Police said they will not call the shooting a road rage incident. They also said that the victim and the suspect did not know each other.

Police said they are beginning the process to remove surveillance cameras from the area.

Police said the suspect fled the scene in a dark-colored two-door coupe.
