Police investigate after pregnant woman’s death in West Houston shooting

HOUSTON – A 22-year-old pregnant woman died after a shooting in West Houston, according to Houston police.

HPD said a report of a shooting arrived at 12:37 p.m. near Wilcrest and Richmond Ave.

“We’re not sure if this is an altercation because of what happened, but there was a report that people may have contacted before the shooting,” said Brian Evans of the Houston Homicide Division.

Authorities said the suspect followed the victim and fired a shot at the car. The bullet went through the rear of the vehicle and into the victim’s back.

“I don’t think he is aware that he hit someone inside the vehicle,” Evans said.

Police said the victim was pregnant. She and the baby died at the scene.

“We understand that (there was) an HPD officer here. In fact, they looked at the vehicle behind. So they were actually here, I think. They were returning to the station when they heard the shots. They approach the vehicle to evaluate her, she was responding in the vehicle, but as soon as a transport on her from outside the vehicle to the sidewalk there was no response that she was declared deceased there ”.
