A zookeeper is recovering in a Russian hospital after a tiger attacked her beneath the gaze of shocked guests.

Kaliningrad Zoo stated the injured worker had breached security guidelines by placing herself within the tiger’s enclosure.

Visitors to the attraction – located in Russia’s Kaliningrad enclave on the Baltic – got here to her rescue by distracting the animal.

They shouted and threw stones and even chairs and tables from a close-by restaurant in a bid to interrupt the badault.

Their efforts labored and the zookeeper managed to flee to an ‘inner room’, the zoo stated in a press release.
