AURORA, Colorado (CBS4) – Three Aurora police officers are under investigation for taking inappropriate photos at a memorial for Elijah McClain, sources report to CBS4 investigator Brian Maass.
My sources say the photos were released within @AuroraPD to other officers and showed officers recreating the warehouse that preceded McClains’ death. Question: Were the officers on duty and in uniform? It is hard to believe that this story can get worse. It just did. @CBSDenver

Maass reports that officers were shown recreating the carotid restraint, which was used on McClain.
The department’s acting chief of police, Vanessa Wilson, released this statement Monday night:
“On Thursday afternoon, I was informed of the allegations reported to Internal Affairs by an Aurora police officer who alleged that several Aurora police officers were depicted in photographs near the site where Elijah McClain died. All officers involved were immediately placed on administrative leave with pay in non-compliance capacities.
I immediately ordered Internal Affairs to make this investigation its top priority. This accelerated investigation was completed this afternoon.
This investigation will be publicly disclosed in its entirety immediately upon completion. This will include reports, photographic evidence obtained, names of officers, and my final determination that may raise the level of completion. “
McClain died after a confrontation with Aurora police in August 2019. The community has demanded the firing of the three officers and two paramedics involved in the confrontation.
All three officers were removed from the patrol service last week.
