The stories of relief efforts in Texas due to the storm and power outages are pouring in, and it has been encouraging to see people join. It is important to acknowledge the essential workers who have been feeding people during pandemic and local emergencies, because they receive very little credit for their work. A photo submitted by a viewer of FOX News in San Antonio shows a pair of Domino’s employees exhausted after a run that wiped out a weekend’s supplies in four hours.

“This Dominos in San Antonio. Working during this crisis. They had food for a weekend and disappeared in 4 hours, ”wrote July DeLuna, the user who sent the photo. for Chime In, the network’s public photo feed. “This team helped those who needed help. These are the essential workers that need recognition. They were the only open pizzeria. All the pizzerias were closed, but the dominoes remained open to help those in need. “

I’ve been through an absurd service rush in my restaurant career when we go through all of our ingredients, and while I’ve probably looked pretty frazzled, I can’t honestly say I’ve ever worked a shift like this. Did the ingredients for an entire weekend just go missing on a shift due to a massive emergency? That’s serious bullshit in the trenches and the kind of shift that even the toughest restaurant employees give up – or at least, when they sneak out to cry privately on the cooler. This is also a stark reminder that many people with essential restaurant jobs often don’t get much more than minimum wage. But they are the ones who prepare the food that arrives at your door just when you need it most.
