Paul McCartney invited a special guest to join him during the last stop of his Freshen Up tour at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on Saturday night: his former bandmate Ringo Starr.
"We have a surprise for us, a surprise for you, a surprise for everyone," McCartney said. "Ladies and gentlemen, the only and only Ringo Starr."
McCartney and Starr, the last surviving Beatles, embraced on stage. Before the band was released to two of the classics of the Four Fabulous, "Band of the Club of Solitary Hearts (Reprise)" and "Helter Skelter" by Starr, a drum kit was removed.
The crowd erupted with enthusiasm. Some fans cried and others seemed unable to believe what they saw. An assistant was heard saying: "I knew Ringo was in the city, I was waiting!"
It seemed that thousands of small jewels illuminated the stadium when concert attendees took out their phones to document the moment.
Starr was not the only guest to make an appearance. Joe Walsh, of the Eagles fame, also joined McCartney to end the concert with "The End", from "The Abbey Road" by the Beatles.
