We all know that 2020 wasn’t exactly a good year for movies. That does not mean that good movies have not come out, there are Nomadland, Minari, Judas and the Black Messiah, Just to name a few. But for those hoping for a genre fee in awards season, the studios for the most part decided to keep their nerdy, big-budget, potentially big-profit blockbusters for a time when the plague wasn’t spreading and people I could pay $ 10 per ticket to see them.

As a result, this year’s Academy Award nominees are pretty slim, at least in terms of genre entertainment, but there are things worth noting among the nominees. The deceased actor Chadwick boseman Y The Walking Dead‘s Steven Yuen earned Best Actor nominations for Ma Rainey’s black ass Y Minari, respectively, like Rogue one Y Poison‘s Riz Ahmed, for Metal Sound. Yuen and Ahmed’s nominations are particularly historic: Yuen becomes the first Asian-American to be considered in the Best Actor category, while Ahmed, of British and Pakistani descent, joins him as only the room actor of Asian descent to be nominated in the category.

director Chloé zhao was nominated for Nomadland—Which drives him even crazier, his next project is Marvel’s Eternal film, alongside fellow nominee Emerald Fennell, marking the first time that multiple women have been nominated in the category. For more specific gender inclinations, Disney’s Mulan could get the best costume design, while Soul is nominated for all possible Audio Awards, including Best Animated Film (along with From Disney Ahead), according to standard Disney / Pixar procedure. Apart from those, though? You can check out the full list of nominees below.
