The OnePlus 8T just made its debut, the phone gets a 120Hz AMOLED panel, 65W fast charging and a redesigned design. OnePlus is now switching gears to focus on its 2021 flagship portfolio.

OnePlus usually launches its numbered flagship in May, but this year it unveiled the OnePlus 8 Series on 14 April, with the phones going on sale from 29 April. For 2021, the company plans to launch the OnePlus 9 Series in March.

OnePlus 9 release date

OnePlus has not yet set a release date for OnePlus 9, but the information we have received from our insider suggests that the launch event will be scheduled sometime around March. OnePlus is not the only company considering an early launch for its 2021 flagship. Samsung is also going to launch the Galaxy S21 series six weeks earlier than the normal window to be released in January.

It makes sense that OnePlus would like to release OnePlus 9 in March; The flagship series counted by doing so can be kept on store shelves for a longer time before the T mid-cycle refresh. The release of OnePlus 9 in March allows OnePlus to effectively launch its 2021 flagship against the likes of Samsung, Xiaomi and others.

An early launch makes OnePlus onePlus 9 better than the Galaxy S21.

It is too early to speculate about the OnePlus 9’s internal hardware, but OnePlus is likely to take advantage of Qualcomm’s upcoming 5nm chipset, the Snapdragon 875. 65W fast charging is allowed for the Warp Charge 65 with OnePlus 8T, also OnePlus 9. The series will also provide the same charging standard. We should also look at IP68 water resistance, wireless charging and upgrading cameras.

Like how the quick launch affects the mid-cycle refresh, it will be interesting to see if the OnePlus maintains its dual flagship release cycle. OnePlus superseded the 8T Pro and released the regular OnePlus 8T of this generation, and the company focused on carrier involvement in the US, making it possible that we could only get one major range in a year.

OnePlus’ business model of selling phones for just six months before launching the new version no longer cuts it. Carriers such as Verizon and T-Mobile have been wanting to sell a phone for at least a year or more, and the T-Mobile version of the OnePlus 7T remains for sale almost a year after its launch – while unlocked The edition sold out several months ago.

What’s next for OnePlus Nord?

It is possible that OnePlus will increase its focus on the Nord series to increase sales. The OnePlus 8 series has not sold in any meaningful numbers for the company, but the OnePlus Nord is doing really well in major markets with India.

OnePlus is offering two models later in the Nord series: the OnePlus Nord N10 5G, powered by a 5G-capable Snapdragon 690 chipset and bound for the US, and an entry-level Nord N100.

In 2021, we may see OnePlus introducing the OnePlus 9 series as the default flagship option for the year, and then shift its efforts to the mid-range and budget segment with many Nord devices during the year. We’ll have to wait and see how it goes out, but we should know more about the OnePlus 9 in the coming weeks.
