One of the biggest benefits of patch 11.0 was an unlisted change to the Wii Fit Trainer header special in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Patch 11.0.0 for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate added Pyra and Mythra as DLC and made some pretty significant adjustments to the balance of the game. Characters like Captain Falcon, Ganondorf, Pichu, King Dedede, and Byleth received some nifty upgrades to their kits. Meanwhile, some fighters like Palutena, Joker, Wario, and Zero Suit Samus were slightly nervous.

However, it seems that one of the most shocking benefits was not even listed in Nintendo’s patch notes. One of the Wii Fit Trainer’s best attacks, the Header, received a significant reduction in its landing recovery. It could even be more accurate to say that his landing recovery was completely removed.

Prior to patch 11.0.0, Wii Fit Trainer required around 9 recovery frames after landing from her Header, which always makes her fly. The latest update has made the Wii Fit Trainer’s only landing recovery frames now determined by the game’s universal hard landing recovery frames, which is 4 frames. This means that Wii Fit Trainer always automatically cancels your header now.

In other words, Wii Fit Trainer will now bounce back in 4 frames after landing from its special header instead of 9 frames. When used close to the ground, the Wii Fit Trainer will now recover 5 frames earlier than before.

Since the Wii Fit Trainer header is such an essential part of your game plan, this unique perk is likely to have a significant impact on the Wii Fit Trainer meta in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

In addition to improving Wii Fit Trainer’s zoning options, you can now more easily use its special header in your combos. With the right settings, these header combos and conversions can be extremely damaging. Wii Fit Trainer also has new Kill Confirmations thanks to the upgrade.

Why was this change made in the first place? According to Invy, members of the Japanese Wii Fit Discord reportedly contacted the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate development team and advised them of a certain bug related to the Wii Fit Trainer header.

This bug apparently disabled the use of the header if the Wii Fit Trainer landed while canceling the sun salutation or deep breath. It seems that the solution was to end the move-in recovery completely.

While this is a significant benefit for the Wii Fit Trainer, the move chart data is not completely absurd as a result of this change. Done as quickly as possible, the Wii Fit Trainer header now requires 48 frames instead of 53 frames while standing on flat ground. Of course, this can be sped up a bit more with Deep Breathing active and with the Header special staled.

However, performing the “fast version” of the header will hit the ball in the air, which is more ideal for crushing aerial approaches. To hit the ball low, Wii Fit Trainer users have to delay hitting the ball by approximately 3-4 additional frames from their fastest possible start time.
