Ohio State Offers Apple App Development and Coding Certification Courses

Ohio State University is making its popular Swift Coding and App Development certification program available to the public. By expanding access to learners everywhere, participants gain cutting-edge skills for today’s modern economy.

Additionally, the university is working with local businesses to provide workforce development opportunities for their employees through the Ohio TechCred program.

In just over a year since its launch, more than 3,000 students, faculty, staff, and alumni have enrolled in the certificate program, completing modules at their own pace on their schedule and developing valuable skills. This new set of public courses expands the opportunity for anyone interested in learning how to code and building apps that are ready for the App Store.

Horizon Two Labs, a Columbus-based venture firm that helps launch, develop, and operate technology startups, supported their employee enrollment in courses. CTO Zak Dziczkowski said the courses help build the Horizon Two team’s knowledge base.

“Horizon Two Labs is focused on bringing great new ideas to life. The ability to quickly and efficiently build and iterate on new ideas is a must at this early stage. We create a host of consumer-oriented products and Ohio State Swift coding courses help build the initial skills of our team, ”he said. “Our entire team strives to be multilingual. This requires constant learning and training in all aspects of the business. “

The four-course series is designed to make it easier for participants to learn to code and develop applications with Swift, Apple’s open source programming language. They also leave with a series of stackable certificates and real-world skills.

“This coding and application development certification program allows anyone, regardless of their prior coding experience or knowledge, the opportunity to learn a tangible and applicable digital skill that will not only provide them immediate skills to use and explore, but also a foundation for the future. learning, innovation and creativity in the digital world, ”said Cory Tressler, director of learning programs and Digital Flagship.

Self-paced curriculum allows participants to progress through lessons on their schedule, speed up what is presented to them with ease, and spend more time on areas they want to develop. The courses are completely online, so the lessons can be accessed and completed from anywhere. The courses are based on Apple’s coding curriculum and its development tool, Xcode, which both students and professional developers use to create applications for Apple platforms. Xcode is available as a free download for Mac.

Once participants have completed the courses, they can take their new skills and complete the Apple Application Development with Swift certification to supplement their Ohio state credential.

Ohio’s TechCred program provides employers the opportunity to enhance the skills of current and future employees in today’s technology-infused economy. Employers can submit requests for reimbursement of up to $ 2,000 when current or future employees complete Ohio State courses.

Course details for the general public are available on the university’s ScarletCanvas platform.

Employers who wish to participate in courses through the Ohio TechCred program can find additional details on the Ohio State digital flagship website.
