The facility is located in Carrizo Springs, Texas, and will be used to house children ages 13-17. The facility has the capacity to house up to 700 migrant children.
“Only 2 months have passed in this administration and our unfair and strained immigration system will not be transformed at that time, “Ocasio-Cortez said.
“DHS should not exist, agencies should reorganize, ICE has to leave, prohibit detention for profit, create climate refugee status and more,” he added.
The White House too defended the installation on Tuesday, saying it was only temporary and necessary due to the pandemic.
