Nvidia has announced the Titan V, the "most powerful PC GPU in the world". It is based on Nvidia's Volta, the same architecture as the Nvidia Tesla V100 GPUs behind the latest generation P3 instances recently launched by Amazon Web Service, dedicated to artificial intelligence applications.

The Titan V for PC is also aimed at researchers and scientists and was unveiled at the large artificial intelligence conference of the Neural Information Processing System (NIPS) this week in Long Beach.

The graphics card consists of six graphics processing clusters, with 21,100 million transistors, 12GB memory and 640 Tensor cores. they are capable of performing 110 teraflops, or 110 trillion floating point operations per second.

That performance defeats one of Nvidia's best gaming GPUs, the Maxwell-based GTX 980, which is capable of 4.6 teraflops, as well as the 11 teraflops that the new GTX 1080 Ti based on Pascal is capable of. At $ 2,999 it also costs about six times more than the high-end gaming GPUs.

Nvidia says the Titan V has nine times more power than its predecessor, the Titan Xp of $ 1,200, and doubles the energy efficiency of Pascal GPU. The gear is manufactured in TMCS '12-nanometer FFN manufacturing process.

"Our vision of Volta was to push the outer limits of high-performance computing and AI. We opened the way with its new processor architecture, instructions, numeric formats, memory architecture and processor links," said the founder and CEO of Nvidia Jensen Huang.

"With TITAN V, we are putting Volta in the hands of researchers and scientists around the world, I can not wait to see its innovative discoveries."

The Titan V has a form factor similar to its game GPUs, but it comes in black and gold. As with Titan Xp, each customer can only buy two units.

Nvidia is also launching its newly launched AI software packages through its GPU cloud.

The growth of artificial intelligence and the adoption of GPU in the cloud to support AI applications have been a great victory for Nvidia. The games remain Nvidia's largest market for revenue, but revenues from data centers at Microsoft, Baidu and AWS have seen industry revenues more than double last year to $ 500m.

The Nvidia video details the specification of Titan V.
