FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. (WSVN) – Officials at Nova Southeastern University announced that one of their dental clinics did not properly sterilize the equipment.
The university issued a statement that says in part: "In place of the full heat sterilization process, the team received a surface disinfectant cloth, which created a minimal risk of possible exposure to hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV for some of our orthodontic patients. "
More than 1,100 of the potentially affected patients have been notified.
The school promised to cover the cost of a blood test and a medical consultation for each patient.
NSU doctors will also remain available to help patients with any of their medical questions.
